Millennial - Boon or Bane?
Packing for a trip to Florida : Time to shop rompers and shorts.
Packing for a trip to in-laws : Can't wear anything too short or too tight.
Yes. Both are my very own contradicting thoughts. True that I have to tailor my wardrobe and my thoughts accordingly but that doesn't mean I am compromising on anything. I am a millennial. Born to the generation X yet in the age of information, we look like a bunch of confused idiots to the world while in real or at-least according to me, are pretty balanced. We do respect elders but also live life on our own terms. We just know how to work with both sides of the coin. But clearly the rest of the world disagrees with that.
Its depressing that even Google pops up articles such as 'Are millennials fu****?' or 'A Generation of Weakness' the minute we try taking its opinion. Why have qualms about our every step and decision? Don't we have anything to do with the progress of the world?
There is an undoubted leap from Gen X to Y. Significantly greater than the proceeding one. Thanks to Internet the world is well connected and informed. People are exposed to much more than one culture or one country from the tops of their laps on their very couches! (For people who are not on par with me, I meant Laptop. Pun intended!) That being said, though I am an Indian through and through, I might not prefer wearing my culture everywhere.
I love bindi, but definitely not while I am wearing jeans. I love bangles, and anklets but I would rather prefer them on a saree than my shorts. There is something called a 'dress-sense' and I have absolutely no intention to fall in its bad books. But all frustrations aside, I understand that some countries and some cultures would raise an eyebrow at such thoughts. Obviously some parents try to enforce their ethnicity on their kids but carrying forward one's traditions solely depends upon oneself. You teach them for the first couple of decades but once they hit their prime, majority knows how they would prefer to live and we are no exception to that.
We love embracing the world while keeping an eye on our background. We are millennials and we are proud about it. There was never a better time to be born!
